Chelsea appeal Desailly ban

LONDON (AFP) — Chelsea have appealed UEFA's three-match ban on defender and French captain captain Marcel Desailly for violent conduct.

The defender was suspended for elbowing Monaco striker Fernando Morientes during the 3-1 first leg defeat in the Champions League semi-finals last week.

Chelsea said on their club website they want the ban overturned.

"The appeal went in before the deadline of midnight on Monday and will be heard on Friday so the outcome will be known before the second leg," it said.

Chelsea face Monaco in the second leg at Stamford Bridge next Tuesday.

UEFA suspended Desailly after studying video evidence of his clash with Morientes.
