Fighter jets escort Air Canada airliner into Vancouver

VANCOUVER, Canada (AFP) — Two jet fighters were scrambled to escort an Air Canada airliner carrying 145 people into Vancouver airport, after an apparent threat was made against the plane.

The Boeing 767 aircraft was inbound to the city from Halifax in eastern Nova Scotia, and made a stop in Toronto before heading across country to Vancouver.

Details of why the aircraft was escorted were sketchy.

But the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation quoted two unnamed government sources as saying that a threat was made against the aircraft, which appears to have been a false alarm.
