BAGHDAD (AFP) — Two sailors for the US-led coalition were killed during an operation in Iraq's restive Al-Anbar province, according to a military statement.

The sailors were killed on Friday and were assigned to the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force which has been operating around the flashpoint Sunni city of Fallujah, but the military declined to give further details.

It brings to 600 the number of US military killed since the end of the six-week "major combat" phase of the war, according to Pentagon figures.

"Two sailors assigned to I Marine Expeditionary Force were killed while conducting operations against anti-coalition forces in the Al-Anbar province April 30," the statement said Saturday.
