BMW gets off to a good start in first quarter of 2004

MUNICH, Germany (AFP) — BMW, the German luxury car maker, said business got off to a good start in the first three months of the current year, driven higher by the success of its new models.

BMW said in a statement that its net profit rose by 2.5 percent to 523 million euros (633 million dollars) in the period from January to March.

Operating profit was also up 2.5 percent at 851 million euros and sales grew by 4.9 percent to 10.805 billion euros.
