Sony launches portable PlayStation

TOKYO (AFP) — Sony Computer Entertainment unveiled its new portable PlayStation game consoles to be marketed globally early next year aimed at a segment dominated by the Nintendo Gameboy.

The unit of Japanese electronics giant Sony Corp. announced details of the PlayStation Portable, or PSP, saying it had online gaming capability and that its graphics and sound quality were better than the latest Gameboy.

The company is targetting first year worldwide sales of three million units of the portable device, which measures 17 centimeters (6.75 inches) by 7.4 centimeters and weighs 260 grams (nine ounces).
