Turning lemons into lemonade, US student turns cicadas into stir fry

COLLEGE PARK, United States (AFP) — Dipped in chocolate is best, but sauteed in garlic or olive oil is tasty, too.

Jenna Jadin, biologist and cicada connoisseur, has cooked up all sorts of ways to eat the insects that have emerged from a 17-year slumber and are swarming in their billions to find mates across several US states.

Jadin, a 27-year-old working on a doctorate in evolutionary biology, is one of a group of self-styled "cicadamaniacs" and has written a book on how best to incorporate the flying insects into a surprisingly healthy diet.

"Cicada-Licious: Cooking and Enjoying Periodical Cicadas" does come with a caveat, to fend off any possible lawsuit.
