MANCHESTER (AFP) — Sven-Goran Eriksson has decided to abandon his midfield diamond for England's final Euro 2004 warm-up match against Iceland.

With just over a week left until England's opening match in Portugal against defending champions France, Eriksson confirmed he would be reverting to a traditional 4-4-2 line-up with Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard taking it in turns to surge forward or hold their position in the centre of midfield.

The Swede however indicated that he could yet revert to the diamond for the clash with France.

"I think we need to look at both because we might need it in the tournament," Eriksson explained.
