Winner of battle for Daily Telegraph to be known Tuesday

LONDON (AFP) — The bank in charge of selling off media holdings including the top British newspaper The Daily Telegraph is to announce on Tuesday which of the two groups remaining in competition have won, The Times said.

The remaining contenders to buy the assets of the Hollinger Group, in a sale being organized by the merchant bank Lazard, are Britain's Barclay brothers and a venture capital fund called 3i.

The Times said the decision would be made after a meeting of the board of Hollinger International to be held later on Monday in New York.

The paper said that the Barclay brothers, who own the newspaper The Scotsman, remained favourites to carry off The Daily Telegraph.
