Pound says he's after drug cheaters not just Americans

MONTREAL (AFP) — Dick Pound says it is ludicrous to think that he has a grudge against the United States or any other country when it comes to exposing drug cheats in sports.

The Canada-based chairman of the World Anti-Doping Agency scoffed at Carl Lewis' accusations on Wednesday that Pound is a patriot who is still upset that Canadian Ben Johnson lost his 1988 Olympic gold medal to Carl Lewis, after Johnson was caught using steroids.

"For Carl to say I am anti-American or getting even for Ben Johnson is nonsense," Pound said.

"But I have that reputation from the USOC and USA Track and Field and now Carl Lewis. For them to say these things is usually a sign you are getting close to something very sensitive."
