LIEGE, Belgium (AFP) — Australian rider Matthew White will not take part in this year's Tour de France after breaking his collarbone in a training accident, his Cofidis team confirmed.
White, who was previewing the 6.1 km prologue course ahead of the start, is believed to have crashed into a rail which was covering some cables.
It is a huge blow for the 30-year-old team support rider, from Sydney, who joined Cofidis with the hope of riding the big Tours, and especially the Tour de France after spending two years with Lance Armstorng's US Postal team.
White's crash means that only nine of the record ten Australians for this year's race remain.
Cofidis have called on Belgian rider Peter Farazijn to replace White.
