Rice edges Brazil's Meira to capture IRL's Indy 300

KANSAS CITY, United States (AFP) — American Buddy Rice edged teammate Vitor Meira of Brazil by just 0.0024 seconds, the second closest finish in IRL history in the Indy 300 in Kansas City.

The victory at Kansas Speedway gave Rahal-Letterman Racing its first 1-2 sweep in the IRL.

The two drivers went side-by-side on lap 187 of the 200-lap race and remained in that formation for the final 13 laps.

Rice was the leader and Meira went to the high side. The two drivers traded leads six times in the final nine laps.

Meira was credited with the lead on the 199th lap but on the final lap, Rice was able to nudge his G Force/Honda just a few inches ahead of his teammate's G Force/Honda to score the second IRL victory of his career.
