Egypt's Mubarak bound for home after German hospital stay

MUNICH, Germany (AFP) — Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak left a private clinic bound for Cairo, two and a half weeks after arriving in Germany for treatment of a slipped disc, a spokesman said.

"He left the clinic at about 1:00 pm (1100 GMT) by helicopter and will fly to Egypt today," the spokesman for the Orthozentrum in the southern German city of Munich said.

His doctor, Michael Mayer, said the 76-year-old president would continue to receive physical therapy at home to strengthen his back and abdomen in order to relieve stress on his spinal column.

"Our patient is fit and can begin working again immediately after his return home," Mayer said.
