BANGKOK, (AFP) — A Thai elephant who drew sympathy from across the world after losing a foot in a landmine blast five years ago, is to get a new artificial limb.
Motala, a 43-year-old female, has become the country's most celebrated elephant since being injured while trekking in the jungle near the Myanmar border.
Vets took three days to get her to a hospital after the blast but despite the loss of her front left foot is in good health, according to Soraida Salwala, secretary-general for the Friends of Asian Elephants foundation.
"She has recovered and the artificial limb process will be discussed when we are confident that she is really ready for it," Soraida said.
Motala's plight drew worldwide attention with money pouring in from across the world...
