PARIS (AFP) — Olympic 100 metres champion Maurice Greene said he had never thought of quitting the sport despite breaking his leg in a motorbike accident two years ago and then suffering a drastic loss of form.
The 'Kansas Comet' said one of the factors motivating him was all the negative publicity generated by recent drug scandals in American athletics which has also involved three of his John Smith stablemates including recently crowned women's 100m champion Torri Edwards.
"I can't really say that quitting crossed my mind," said Greene of his accident on a Los Angeles freeway in February 2002 which only came to light recently.
