IMF, World Bank open as usual despite terror threat

WASHINGTON (AFP) — The IMF and World Bank opened for business Monday amid tightened security in the wake of a weekend alert that the two institutions were on a list of terror targets of the al-Qaeda organization.

Employees of the organizations appeared to be taking the news in stride, as security around the International Monetary Fund and World Bank complex was boosted, even though traffic around the area was not halted.

"I heard about it, but I'm not worried. An attack is possible, but I don't feel I'm not secure," said Kay Abewami, a World Bank employee.

"I'm a bit nervous. You never know what can happen," added Mary Ourke, also of the World Bank.
