Cisse joins Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH (AFP) — Portsmouth stunned their Premiership rivals by signing Birmingham midfielder Aliou Cisse for just 300,000 pounds.
Cisse captained Senegal in the 2002 World Cup and had been lined with a loan move to Premiership new boys Crystal Palace.
But Portsmouth, the only one of last season's promoted clubs to stay in the top flight, have signed Cisse on a two-year deal.
He is now set to make his debut for the south coast club against Birmingham at Fratton Park when the Midlands side are the visitors on the opening day of the season a week on Saturday.
Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie told the club's official website, www.pompeyfc.co.uk: "Aliou is a tenacious ball-winning player with a very competitive spirit.
