Paris fashion week: chic Celine, Stella McCartney's carefree summer

PARIS (AFP) — Roberto Menichetti made a strong debut for Celine that celebrated the chic Parisienne, while Stella McCartney offered a light, feminine collection for spring-summer 2005 that exuded bohemian cool.

The 38-year-old Menichetti -- who made a name for himself by rejuvenating Burberry in the late 1990s -- stepped confidently into the shoes of US designer Michael Kors, who left Celine in March to focus on his own label.

Menichetti sees the new Celine woman as the quintessential Parisian femme -- spontaneous, full of life and ever stylish. He offered an eclectic ready-to-wear collection full of ideas.

As the Beach Boys crooned in the background, the Italian designer's short, backless 1960s "pop dresses" in bright shades of turquoise, pink, yellow, blue...
