LOS ANGELES (AFP) — "Four Weddings and a Funeral" movie star Andie MacDowell and her high school sweetheart Rhett Hartzog have reportedly divorced after less than three years of marriage.

The 46-year-old actress and her businessman husband, who were married at a lavish ceremony in the eastern US state of South Carolina in November 2001, split up quietly, People Magazine said Thursday.

"It's a painful and very private time," a source close to the couple told the US publication, which provided no further details of the rupture of the raven-haired actress's second marriage.

MacDowell and Hartzog first met as classmates at Gaffney High School in South Carolina three decades ago and were reunited by the star's sister in 1999.
