Indonesia's Yudhoyono hails victory, vows to tackle corruption, conflicts

JAKARTA (AFP) — Indonesian president-elect Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has delivered a long-awaited victory speech, promising to immediately tackle corruption and regional conflicts.

Yudhoyono urged Indonesians to unite behind him and thanked outgoing President Megawati Sukarnoputri for overseeing the country's transition to full democracy.

"With great humility, I will carry this precious mandate from the people with the greatest sense of responsibility and care," Yudhoyono said Saturday.

Yudhoyono said he would announce his cabinet line-up on October 20, the day of his induction, and would get down to work immediately to solve the country's pressing problems.
