WASHINGTON (AFP) — The United States closed its embassy in Macedonia to the public and advised Americans to avoid all US government offices in the country after receiving information about a "potential threat" to the facilities.
The State Department said it decided to close the embassy for all but essential services until further notice after receiving information about a possible threat to the embassy in Skopje and other US offices in Macedonia.
"It's information that we acquired locally, that relates to ... a potential threat to US government facilities," spokesman Richard Boucher said. "The embassy is looking at its security posture and they will reopen at the appropriate time once they decide it's okay."
He declined to elaborate on the threat...
