BELGRADE (AFP) — Serbian President Boris Tadic has survived an apparent assassination attempt when a car tried to crash into his vehicle in Belgrade, his office said.

"The official vehicle carrying Serbian President Boris Tadic was attacked around 9:00 pm (2000 GMT) Tuesday" in central Belgrade's Kneza Milosa avenue, the office said in a statement.

Tadic was not injured in the incident, it added.

An Audi tried several times to crash into the president's car, although it was "clearly marked," the statement said, adding that a "proper reaction by security officials prevented serious consequences."
