Bayley, Meares in Australian team for World Cup

SYDNEY (AFP) — Athens Olympic champions Ryan Bayley and Anna Meares were named in the Australian team for this month's UCI Track Cycling World Cup in Los Angeles.
Bayley, who won the sprint and keirin gold medal double in Athens, was last month selected Australian cyclist of the year and heads the Australian team for the December 10-12 World Cup leg.
Meares, who became the first woman to ride under 34 seconds for the 500m time trial when she smashed the world record to win gold in Athens, was named Australian female track cyclist of the year.
Meares also won an Olympic bronze in the sprint and last May she won the 500m time trial world championship and was the silver medallist in the sprint in Melbourne.
