US company to open India development centre

BANGALORE, India (AFP) — US-based technology firm IP Unity launched a software development centre in the Indian city of Bangalore and said it plans to employ 100 workers.

The company, founded in 1999 and which raised more than 68 million dollars from venture capitalists such as Siemens, Goldman Sachs and Partech International, said it would invest 100 million rupees (2.1 million dollars) in the facility.

"India will act as a base for the development of software applications and solutions in areas such as web-conferencing, messaging and customer support," Arun Sobti, chief executive officer of IP Unity told reporters.

"When the company starts expanding in South Asia, India will be the launch point," he said.
