Manning ties Marino's single-season touchdown record

INDIANAPOLIS, United States (AFP) — Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning tied Dan Marino's record of 48 touchdown passes in a National Football League season.

Manning tied the mark with a three-yard shovel toss to running back James Mungro with 9:24 left in the third quarter against the San Diego Chargers.

Marino set his record of 48 TD passes in 1984 for the Miami Dolphins.

Manning nearly tied Marino's record early in the second quarter, but tight end Dallas Clark dropped a pass over the middle at the San Diego 1 yard line and the Colts settled for a field goal. The Chargers lead the Colts, 24-16 after three quarters.
