Exhausted MacArthur battles rounds Cape Horn

LONDON (AFP) — British sailor Ellen MacArthur was 4 days 2hr 45min ahead of Francis Joyon's 72-day round-the-world record pace when she rounded the legendary Cape Horn.

MacArthur has 7,000 miles left and must finish on February 9 to break the record of 72 days 22 hours 54 minutes and 22 seconds Joyon set last February.

She took a record 44 days 23hr 36min to complete the solo trek to Cape Horn.

Her website reported the 28-year-old collapsed with fatigue after battling storms on her 75-foot trimaran BetQ for the last two days.

She has 28 days to complete the final 7,000 miles, a section of the course that took Joyon 23 days.
