Redknapp looks to son Jamie to beat the drop

LONDON (AFP) — Relegation-threatened Southampton have signed Tottenham midfielder Jamie Redknapp to help them beat the Premiership drop.

Saints boss Harry Redknapp, who accepted Everton's six-million-pound bid for striker James Beattie on Monday, also bagged Tottenham defender Calum Davenport on loan.

Tottenham released Redknapp so he can link up with his father Harry at Southampton.

The 31-year-old former England midfielder has spent three years at Spurs since moving from Liverpool, making 53 first-team appearances and taking over as club captain from Teddy Sheringham in 2003.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy praised Redknapp for his efforts at White Hart Lane.
