KATHMANDU, Nepal (AFP) — US ambassador to Nepal James Moriarty was prevented from meeting a former prime minister who has been under house arrest since King Gyanendra seized power in the Himalayan country a month ago, the US embassy said.
Moriarty had sought a meeting with Nepal Congress president and ex-prime minister Girija Prasad Koirala at his house in Maharajgunj, on the outskirts of Kathmandu, on Monday but security personnel stationed at the premises prevented him, saying he had no permission.
