Bush calls tribal leader about shooting rampage

CRAWFORD, United States (AFP) — US President George W. Bush telephoned a tribal chairman in Minnesota after a shooting rampage on an Indian reservation, offering his condolences and pledges of aid, the White House said.

Bush called Floyd Jourdain, the chairman of the Red Lake Chippewa tribe, from his Texas ranch and assured him of "continued help from the federal government," said spokeswoman Dana Perino.

A 16-year-old gunman killed 10 people Monday at Red Lake High School in a rural town on the Red Lake Indian Reservation, 120 kilometers (75 miles) south of the Canadian border, in the worst US school shooting in six years.
