Lebanon to mark civil war anniversary with "unity" festival

BEIRUT (AFP) — Lebanon, mired in political crisis and hit by a series of bomb attacks, is to mark the 30th anniversary of the start of its devastating civil war with a cultural and sporting festival under the slogan of "unity."
"We call on Lebanese of all religions and all regions to take part in these activities" between April 8 and 13, organized by local associations and UN agencies, MP Bahia Hariri told a press conference.
Her brother, the former premier and billionaire businessman Rafiq Hariri, was assassinated in a bomb blast on February 14, plunging the country into crisis and bringing huge protests at Syria's military and political domination of the country.
Hariri was the main architect of the post-war reconstruction of Lebanon, with pride of place among his achievements being the rebirth of downtown Beirut.
