MANCHESTER, England (AFP) — Blackburn boss Mark Hughes, a former Manchester United striker and a man increasingly tipped as a potential successor to Sir Alex Ferguson, returned to Old Trafford to inflict more damage on his old club's hopes of finishing second in the Premiership after a goalless draw.
On the day that their board announced a hefty increase in ticket prices for next season - a move that has proved predictably unpopular with supporters - United suffered another disappointing result in a season that is threatening to be the most unproductive in recent memory.
Blackburn keeper Brad Friedel made a number of stunning first half saves and Wayne Rooney, fresh from England duty, and Roy Keane both hit the woodwork before the interval.
