Portsmouth hand Perrin first win to ease relegation worries

PORTSMOUTH, England (AFP) — Portsmouth eased their relegation worries with a 4-2 win over Charlton, handing new French manager Alain Perrin a vital first victory to move seven points clear of the drop zone.

Two late second-half goals by Diomansy Kamara and Lomana Tresor LuaLua sealed the win over the London side, after a Danny Murphy free kick and a Jonathon Fortune header had cancelled out goals by Aiyegbeni Yakubu and Steve Stone.

Nigerian striker Yakubu got Portsmouth off to the perfect start, stroking home a goal from close range in the third minute after a cross by Steve Stone.

Charlton's Shaun Bartlett saw an effort go left of the post on the quarter hour.
