Blackburn's Todd charged with violent conduct

LONDON (AFP) — Blackburn Rovers captain Andy Todd was charged with violent conduct by the Football Association after appearing to elbow Dutch striker Robin van Persie during last weekend's 3-0 FA Cup semi-final defeat against Arsenal.

Van Persie, a substitute, was celebrating the second of his two goals, scored on the stroke of full-time at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday, when central defender Todd seemed to elbow the striker in the mouth.

An FA statement said: "Blackburn Rovers defender Andy Todd has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3 for violent conduct.

"Todd has until 6pm (1700GMT) on Wednesday, April 20 to respond to the charge. The case is due to be heard by a Disciplinary Commission on Thursday, April 21."
