GLASGOW (AFP) — David Hay has stepped down as manager of Scottish Premier League tailenders Dunfermline Athletic.

The club board also sacked assistant manager Billy Kirkwood and first team coach Paul Hegarty on Monday as they try and avoid relegation with just three games remaining.

"I don't want to say anything further at this stage but he (Hay) is no longer here and it was mutual," said club chairman John Yorkston, who only on Sunday had told the former Celtic and Scotland defender his job was safe.

"It is all a wee bit sudden and it was not just my decision."
