Yahoo launches online music subscription service

WASHINGTON (AFP) — Internet giant Yahoo announced plans for a new online music subscription service as well as an online music store allowing consumers to pay for individual song downloads.

The test or beta version of Yahoo Music Unlimited was set to debut on Wednesday, for users in the United States, according to a statement from the Sunnyvale, California group.

The service will be priced below those of many rivals at an introductory rate of 4.99 dollars per month for an annual subscription, or 6.99 dollars on a monthly basis.

Users would be able to choose and play songs from a catalog of more than one million songs and transfer tracks to portable devices.

Permanent downloads however would be offered separately, at 79 cents for subscribers and 99...
