Albright calls for thaw in US-Spanish links

MADRID (AFP) — Former US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright said she hoped to see a thaw in relations between Spain and the United States, the countries having fallen out last year when the new Spanish government pulled its troops out of Iraq.
Describing the disagreement as "not good for the United States and not good for Spain" Albright, on a private visit to Madrid, said it was time to "get relations back on track" and ensure that any personal feelings on issues were subordinated to political needs between allied nations.
Albright added that Spain was a key strategic ally in that it was not only a member of NATO but also played an important role in shoring up links with North Africa.
