NBA suspends Nuggets coach for three games

NEW YORK (AFP) — Denver Nuggets coach George Karl was suspended for the first three games of next season and fined 200,000 dollars by the National Basketball Association here for an improper player contact.

Karl attended a workout May 16-18 at Marquette University involving a player who was not eligible for the NBA Draft. The player was not identified.

"George made an innocent mistake, but we take full responsibility for these actions," Nuggets general manager Kiki Vandewedge said in a statement. "We regret any inadvertent violation that occurred."

Karl guided the Nuggets to a 32-8 record after being named coach on January 27. The Nuggets were eliminated from the NBA playoffs by San Antonio in the first round on May 4.
