"Spamalot," "Doubt" win Tony glory

NEW YORK (AFP) — "Monty Python's Spamalot" looked on the brighter side of theatrical life, winning the coveted best musical prize at Broadway's annual awards extravaganza, the 2005 Tony awards.

The zany stage version of the cult film "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" -- adapted by original Python member Eric Idle -- had a leading 14 nominations coming into the evening and also won Tonys for director Mike Nichols and best featured actress, Sara Ramirez.

"And now for something completely different ... let's not thank Eric Idle who was the genius behind it all," said the show's producer Bill Haber.
