An old Kite still good enough to fly high above PGA's elite

BETHESDA, United States (AFP) — Tom Kite, trying to become the oldest winner in US PGA Tour history at age 55, fired a five-under par 66 to seize a one-stroke lead after the third round of the Booz Allen Classic.

Kite, seeking a 20th career US tour triumph that would bring a lifetime exemption, dropped a 10-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole to finish 54 holes on 10-under 203 and justify his comeback after five years on the over-50 circuit.

"I've done it for me," Kite said. "I'm not worried about what the so-called experts are saying one way or the other."

Sharing second on 204 were England's Luke Donald and Lee Westwood, Australians Adam Scott, Stuart Appleby and Steve Elkington and South African Ernie Els, who won the 1997 US Open on this Congressional...
