World Bank offers help as Kenya fails to privatise Telkom Kenya

NAIROBI (AFP) — World Bank has offered to help Kenya restructure its parastatals ahead of a month-end deadine set by President Mwai Kibaki to privatise Telkom Kenya.
"I will ensure that the government gets resources to support the country's reform agenda in the financial sector and the restructuring of parastatals like Telkom Kenya and Kenya Ports Authority," the World Bank's new representative in Kenya, Colin Bruce, said when meeting Kibaki here.
In 2003, Kibaki said that the much-delayed privatisation of Telkom Kenya would be completed by June 2005, but the government has since been silent.
