Quebec writer Michel Tremblay has throat cancer

MONTREAL (AFP) — Quebec novelist and dramatist Michel Tremblay has throat cancer, Canadian media reported citing his agent.

Best-known for his book "Sisters-in-Law," which was translated into English in 2004, the 62-year-old is considered to be one of the greatest French-language writers and dramatists in Canada.

Born in Montreal on June 25, 1942, Tremblay has published some 40 works, most set in his native city, notably the series "The chronicles of the Mount Royal Plateau," a neighborhood in the bustling Quebec metropolitan city.

According to reports citing people close to the writer, Tremblay underwent surgery and must now receive chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The French-language public broadcaster Radio Canada reported that he hopes to be well enough...
