Liverpool to play at Racecourse
0 Comments | AFP, June, 2005
LONDON (AFP) — Liverpool will play the second leg of their Champions League first qualifying round tie against Welsh champions Total Network Solutions at Wrexham's Racecourse Ground.
TNS had raised the possibility of playing the match at Goodison Park, home to Liverpool's Merseyside rivals Everton.
That would have ensured a major pay-day for the tiny club, but European football's governing body UEFA was not prepared to accept a home tie for a Welsh side being played in England.
The Racecourse has a seated capacity of just over 10,000.
Liverpool lifted the Champions League trophy in Istanbul in May but have been forced to go through qualifying for the 2005-06 competiton because they only finished fifth in the English Premiership last season.
