NAAS, Ireland (AFP) — Thomas Bjorn put last year's nightmare at the European Open behind him here on Friday as he grabbed a share of the halfway lead at The K Club after a second round 69.

The 34-year-old Dane is tied with Welshman Jamie Donaldson, who carded a 70, for a five under par total of 139, and one shot ahead of a group of five including former champion Darren Clarke (71) and England's Jonathan Lomas (72).

Bjorn walked out of the event after just six holes last year but this time he looks in good form ahead of next month's British Open.

"I was going through a rough spell and couldnt really see my way through it," said Bjorn of last year's episode.
