Fans could shun A1 GP series after Indianapolis F1 fiasco: official

KUALA LUMPUR (AFP) — US spectators may shy away from the inaugural A1 GP series after last month's Formula One fiasco at the Indianapolis Grand Prix, a senior official said.

"It's clearly not going to help," said Jack Cunningham, director of A1 team Malaysia, referring to the F1 race which 14 drivers boycotted due to safety concerns.

Disgusted US spectators pelted the remaining drivers from the three teams running Bridgestone tyres with missiles with many walking away demanding their money back.

The A1 series, which pits country against country in what is being called a 'world cup of motorsport', begins in September with all teams using similar cars, engines and tyres.
