WASHINGTON (AFP) — Andre Agassi withdrew from the ATP Washington Classic, one day after capturing his 60th career title in Los Angeles.

The 35-year-old American was the second seed at the 600,000-dollar hardcourt tournament behind US star Andy Roddick. Agassi has won the title here five times, most recently in 1999.

"At this point in my career I have to be extremely selective about the amount of matches that I play in preparation of the US Open," Agassi said in a letter faxed to tournament officials.
