It's a boy for Washington zoo's giant pandas

WASHINGTON (AFP) — The newborn panda cub that has all of Washington aflutter is a boy, zoo officials announced this week.
At nearly one month old, the cub underwent his first examination by the zoo's veterinarian on Tuesday, weighing in at 1.82 pounds (825.7 grams) and measuring 12 inches (30 centimeters) long. Zoo officials swooped in to conduct the exam while the cub's mother, Mei Xiang, was eating and a taking a brief bathroom break.
In a statement on its website, the zoo said the cub "is very solid and sturdy and extremely cute."
During the nine-minute exam behind a closed door which separated the cub from his mother, Mei Xiang appeared "anxious," zoo officials noted, adding that she stood up and began pawing at the door and tried to open a window.
