Jazz singer Madeleine Peyroux 'disappears'

LONDON (AFP) — US jazz songstress Madeleine Peyroux is missing, her record company said amid speculation that she has gone publicity shy in the face of her newfound popularity.

"She has simply disappeared," a spokesman for Universal Classics said, after Peyroux -- one of the hottest stars of this summer's jazz scene -- failed to turn up for promotional duties.

"Universal have gone to great lengths to protect Madeleine from burnout through too much promotional work, but it would seem that Ms Peyroux has had enough," it said, adding that it had hired a detective to look for her.

"Careless Love," only the second album in Georgia-born Peyroux's career, was expected to make the Top 10 album chart in Britain this weekend, after being featured on adult-oriented...
