Saddam evokes faith and love in prison letter

AMMAN (AFP) — Deposed and imprisoned Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein has addressed a letter to the Jordanian people discussing the importance of "faith, love and reproduction", according to a copy handed out by Jordan's Baath party.

"Life without considerations of faith, love and reproduction, inherited from our nation, has no sense," read the missive, addressed and handed over to an unnamed friend of Saddam by the International Committee of the Red Cross.

ICRC spokeswoman in Amman Rana Sidani was not immediately able to confirm the enigmatic letter's authenticity.

It begins with a Koranic verse followed by "greetings to the fraternal Jordanian people... love your people, love Palestine and love your nation." The letter had several words removed, apparently by...
