US police probe mysterious disappearance of Olivia Newton-John's boyfriend

SYDNEY (AFP) — US police are reportedly investigating the mysterious disappearance of the long-time boyfriend of Australian performer Olivia Newton-John.

Police have not ruled out the possibility that Patrick Kim McDermott, 48, was murdered or faked his death after going missing during an overnight fishing trip off the California coast on June 30, the Australian news agency AAP said.

Newton-John -- a singer and actress who rose to fame starring alongside John Travolta in the 1978 hit movie musical 'Grease' -- was said to be frantic at the disappearance of McDermott, with whom she had lived in the beachside town of Malibu.
