NEW HAVEN, United States (AFP) — Asian number one Paradorn Srichaphan continued his solid US summer campaign, squeezing into the quarter-finals of the 675,000-dollar US Open tune-up event.
The Thai star thumped seven aces and showed steely nerves in disposing of Frenchman Cyril Saulnier 7-6 (7/3), 7-6 (7/5) in 1hr 49min.
On Thursday, he will meet the winner of the match between Czech Thomas Zib and David Ferrer of Spain, the third seed.
Despite two-first round losses at the Cincinnati and Montreal Masters Series, coupled with a third-round finish in Indianapolis, the 26-year-old Thai star reached the quarter-finals in all other three events he entered leading up to the US Open, which starts in New York on Monday.
