Van Gisbergen kicks off Wasps title defence

LONDON (AFP) — A flawless kicking display from Mark van Gisbergen helped Wasps get the defence of their English Premiership title off to a flying start with a hard fought victory over London rivals Saracens.
The New Zealander provided 13 points in a 23-11 victory for the champions on the opening Saturday of the 2005/06 season.
Both sides were parading a variety of new signings with Frenchman Raphael Ibanez particularly keen to make an early impression in his first start for Wasps since signing from Saracens last month.
It was Saracens however, who made the first impression with fly-half Glen Jackson slotting two penalties in the first 15 minutes.
On the half hour mark Wasps took over with a van Gisbergen penalty and a converted Tom Voyce try in quick succession ensuring they went into half-time with a 10-6 lead.
